Black Uhuru

Black Uhuru Official Vinyl & Music Collection

Immerse yourself in the hypnotic rhythms, revolutionary spirit, and defining sound of roots reggae royalty with the official Black Uhuru collection at Universal Music Store South Africa. As one of Jamaica’s most influential and enduring vocal groups, Black Uhuru pioneered the heavy, militant "rockers" sound of the late 70s and 80s, eventually making history by winning the very first Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album. Whether you are a dedicated roots-reggae audiophile or building a cornerstone vinyl library, our curated selection of their iconic records is an absolute necessity.

Grounded by founder Derrick "Duckie" Simpson, the powerhouse lead vocals of Michael Rose, the striking harmonies of Sandra "Puma" Jones, and the unstoppable riddim section of Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare, Black Uhuru created a sleek, futuristic, yet deeply spiritual brand of reggae. Experience their deep basslines, razor-sharp percussion, and haunting anthems on the highest quality analog formats, masterfully restored for the ultimate sound system experience.
